Mayor Chuck Birkholtz - Biography

I am a retired Ohio educator who served parents and students for 39 years before retiring in 2012. When I graduated from Indiana State University (Nov.1972), I began teaching at Schroder Junior High School in Cincinnati. 1974-1984, I taught in the Oak Hills Local School District. While there, I received my master’s degree in Secondary Education Administration from Xavier University and was hired by Trotwood-Madison High School as an Assistant Principal in November 1984.  In 1996, our family moved to Cleves, Ohio, from Aurora, Indiana, and we have lived in the Village continuously. My wife and I have been married for fifty years, and we have three children: Beth, Matt, and Patrick. Beth graduated from South Dearborn High School before we moved to Cleves, and Matt and Patrick are proud graduates of Taylor High School. My wife Debbie is a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph University.

During my career in education, I have served as a middle school principal in Mason, Ohio, a high school principal in Bellbrook, Ohio, Director of Personnel & Curriculum, and Title IX Enforcement Officer in Bellbrook from 2005 to 2009, finally, Superintendent of Schools of Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools from 2009 -2012.

In retirement, I have worked for the Cincinnati Reds for ten years. While I never planned to run for political office, I decided to run for Mayor of Cleves in 2023. I am very grateful to the citizens of the Village of Cleves for electing me to serve them as their mayor last November for the next four years.
